CAN GAS deploys PSA oxygen production system for 5 major hospitals in a country in West Asia
On May 31, 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) will collaborate with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to install life-saving oxygen stations in five major hospitals located in priority provinces across southern Yemen.
These five oxygen stations will provide critical support for hospital anesthesia services and the treatment of major medical emergencies—including severe COVID-19 cases, traumatic injuries, cardiac arrest, and shock. All such procedures require an uninterrupted supply of oxygen to prevent permanent organ damage or even death among many patients.
Dr. Adham Rashad Ismail Abdel Moneim, the WHO Representative in Yemen, stated: "Sustainable oxygen supplies are crucial for operating rooms, intensive care units (ICUs), and COVID-19 treatment centers at hospitals and other health facilities." Due to high costs, inadequate infrastructure, and logistical challenges, healthcare facilities throughout Yemen frequently lack access to reliable oxygen supplies, leading to preventable deaths.
Over 40,000 critically ill patients are expected to benefit from these installations, which are scheduled to be fully operational by September 2022. Following their deployment in all five hospitals, WHO will train medical staff on how to effectively utilize, monitor, and maintain the oxygen systems.
Once operational, these stations will help address Yemen’s increasingly severe shortage of affordable and sustainable oxygen supplies—a crisis exacerbated by the country’s ongoing economic collapse and public health emergency. This initiative marks another significant step toward ensuring access to sustainable healthcare services.
"Many of these hospitals and health facilities confront large numbers of unreported COVID-19 cases and related fatalities," noted Dr. Abdel Moneim. "These stations will help ensure the continuity of essential functions and basic health services, primarily focused on managing COVID-19 patients, providing trauma care, and treating respiratory distress."
