In PSA air separation systems, the standard adsorption pressure is 5.5 bar for PSA oxygen generators and 7–8 bar for PSA nitrogen generators.
This discrepancy stems from the different adsorbent materials adopted: PSA oxygen generators utilize zeolite molecular sieves, while PSA nitrogen generators adopt carbon molecular sieves. These tailored pressure ranges enable molecular sieves and equipment to achieve optimal operating status. Any deviation from the standard pressure range, whether excessively high or low, will trigger the following operational problems:
1. Excessive Adsorption Pressure

  • · Excessively high pressure increases driving power consumption, which raises overall operating costs.

  • · Overpressure imposes heavy load on internal components of the adsorption bed, accelerating component wear and shortening the equipment service life.

  • · Extreme pressure may damage the adsorbent, degrade its adsorption performance and durability, reduce gas production efficiency, and lead to frequent adsorbent replacement.

  • · Excessive pressure causes uneven gas flow distribution during adsorption, negatively impacting finished gas purity.

  • · High operating pressure requires higher equipment sealing standards and brings potential operational safety hazards.

 

2. Insufficient Adsorption Pressure

  • · Inadequate adsorption pressure limits gas adsorption capacity, resulting in poor air separation efficiency.

  • · Low pressure reduces unit gas production efficiency, extending production cycles and increasing comprehensive operating costs.

  • · The equipment cannot run at full rated capacity under insufficient pressure, causing idle resource waste.

  • · It will also lead to unstable flow rate and purity of finished gas, disrupting the stability of downstream production processes and end-product quality.
