Ambient temperature directly impacts the operation of PSA nitrogen generators. Both excessively low and high temperatures impair stable system performance. As sustained high temperatures prevail in summer, closer monitoring and maintenance of PSA nitrogen generation systems are essential to avoid operational faults. Overall, high-temperature environments bring about the following potential risks to the equipment:

Adsorbent Performance Degradation

High temperatures lower the adsorption capacity of the system's carbon molecular sieve adsorbent, which in turn reduces the purity and output of produced nitrogen. Statistics show that adsorption capacity drops by approximately 15% with every 10°C increase in ambient temperature.

Deteriorated System Stability

  • 1.High temperatures speed up the aging and hardening of sealing materials, which may result in valve leakage. This leads to unstable nitrogen purity and higher compressed air consumption.

  • 2.High heat can cause malfunctions in electronic components such as PLCs and sensors, triggering program faults or even system shutdowns.

  • 3.High ambient temperatures may also cause thermal expansion and deformation of equipment parts, compromising overall operational stability.


Higher Energy Consumption and Economic Losses

  1. 1.To offset the declined performance of molecular sieves, operators may increase the flow rate or working pressure of air compressors, resulting in higher system energy consumption.

  2. 2.Long-term high-temperature operation shortens the service life and reduces the durability of components, causing frequent equipment failures and unstable system operation.

  3. 3.To guarantee sufficient desorption during molecular sieve regeneration under high temperatures, the purge gas flow must be increased by 15% to 20%.


Although rising temperatures theoretically increase the kinetic energy of gas molecules and may slightly facilitate adsorption, this effect is negligible in practical operation. The adverse effects of high temperatures are far more dominant. Therefore, PSA nitrogen generators should be kept out of high-temperature environments as much as possible. Common ambient temperature control measures are listed below:

  • · Ventilation Optimization: Install exhaust outlets to discharge heat generated by air compressors outdoors.

  • · Heat Source Isolation: Equip sunshades to avoid direct sunlight on the equipment, and keep the unit at least 3 meters away from high-temperature equipment such as boilers.

  • · Forced Cooling: Deploy industrial fans or air conditioning systems to maintain the indoor ambient temperature within the standard range of 5–35°C.

 

Furthermore, consistent routine inspection and daily maintenance can keep equipment in optimal condition, ensuring the long-term efficient and stable operation of PSA nitrogen generation systems.
