Fenghuoshan Tunnel in Qing-Zang Railway and Diffusion type of Oxygen Supply

In terms of the layout of China's Railway network, it was blank once for Tibet, and the "difficulty of entering Tibet" has always been a big trouble between Tibet and the interior. In order to solve this problem, plans and preparations has been put on the agenda about establishing a connection channel between Tibet, Qinghai and the mainland, and the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.


As the roof of the world, the Tibetan Plateau has beautiful natural scenery, but the poor natural conditions with heavy wind and sand, strong ultraviolet rays, cold and low oxygen , has brought unprecedented difficulty to the whole railway project. Especially the hard bones on the railway line - Fenghuoshan Tunnel, the highest-altitude tunnel in the world, with the lowest oxygen content. To work here, you need to carry an oxygen cylinder, and the tunnel is full of dust and lack of air, the more you go into the tunnel, the lower oxygen you can take from the air. That slowed down the construction progress, so the command center of tunnel project decided to build a plateau oxygen station resolutely, to solve the problem of lack of oxygen in the plateau construction, via the diffusion type of oxygen supply method.


With the help of Beijing University of Science and Technology, an CanGas® oxygen station was established in the Fenghuoshan tunnel quickly. The oxygen station can provide workers with capacity of oxygen more than 20m3/h, more than 92% purity and work for 24 hours a day. The oxygen produced by the O2 station, was sprayed into the working area with a dispersion device to form an oxygen mist, so that the oxygen content in the tunnel was increased. It is obviously the diffuse oxygen supply has improved the oxygen content in the work area, and the daily excavation speed of the tunnel construction has increased from 2~3m per day to 5~8m. In the end, the tunnel was finished earlier than planned, and it also created a new record for the construction of high-altitude frozen soil tunnels.


The usage of oxygen and oxygen supply system made by CAN GAS in the Fenghuoshan tunnel makes an impression to everyone; it not only strengthens the medical protection of the constructors, guarantees the oxygen supply to all construction personnel, but also reduces the incidence of altitude sickness and improves the progress of the railway construction. In view of this effect, the diffusion type of oxygen supply in the Fenghuoshan tunnel were promoted and applied to the entire Qinghai-Tibet Railway project quickly, servicing more than 20,000 people.
