Take a train to Lhasa - The Plateau Oxygen-enriched EMU Train From Lhasa To Nyingchi Opens

On June 25, the Lalin (Lhasa-Nyingchi) Railway, the first electrified railway to Tibet, was opened officially. Since then, the history of no trains in southeastern area of Tibet had ended, and it also marked the beginning of era for high-speed trains in Tibet Autonomous Region.

Chinese "Fuxing" plateau internal electric dual-source EMU carries out the transporting of Lalin railway. Both ends of the train are equipped with electric and internal combustion power units, which can switch between electrification and non-electrification.

However, different from most railway routes, 90% of the Lalin railway lines locate in high land over 3000 meters above the sea level. Situation of strong ultraviolet rays, high wind and sand, high cold and low oxygen are the main problems the "Fuxing" EMU has to face. The plateau environment puts forward more stringent requirements for the quality of the EMU train set.

From the beginning of the project, relevant technical personnel have visited Qinghai-Tibet for many times. According to the feature of high altitude application characteristics, the sandblasting process is used in the whole vehicle to increase the adhesion and anti-corrosion performance; and a protective cover and a UVA protection plate are added at the outside of the vehicle to reduce the damage in parts such as rubber and nylon from the tableland environment. The whole vehicle adopts a sealed structure and is equipped an oxygen generation chamber, which can provide passengers diffuse rich oxygen like air conditioner. It can also adjust the oxygen content based on the changes in altitude, which effectively guarantees the safety and comfort of passengers when traveling under the plateau with low pressure. 

In the long term, the Lalin Railway is not only the convenience of travel brought by the advancement of science and technology, but also a powerful measure to prosper and strengthen the border area. It is bound to promote the high-quality development of the local economy and opens up a path to prosperity for the Tibetan region.

Looking back at the past, CAN GAS has been involved in the supply of oxygen making equipment in the construction section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway since 2004.
