In practice the life support system of military and civil aircraft maintain PPO2 by increasing the oxygen concentration of the pilot’s breathing gas supply between the minimum and maximum level.

Oxygen used in pressurized airliners is governed by the times necessary to descend to safe altitudes in the event of a cabin depressurization.
